Recordando...

yup, its the last post of the year on the last day of the year. What a year its been...

Seems like yesterday i packed up Vita and hit the dusty trail, leaving my old life behind as a naive undergrad. Now I'm on the grind out in our nation's capital in Med school. The Big Guy upstairs has been very good to me. I just thank him everyday for how he's blessed me. So as I enter into 2008, i will forever remember the lessons learned this year and cherish the memories that Ive accumulated over the last 12 months.

2007 was a Very good year, but 08 has the makings of Greatness.

Resolving Revolving Resolutions

I sometimes wish i was one of those people who could do whatever they wanted and not thing once about any repercussions. I sometimes wish i could one of those "Manly men" who could sit around and watch sports all day. I wish a lot of things but i realized that everything Im not really does make me who i am.

I wouldn't be me if i did some stuff and acted certain ways. I love me and i aint tryin to change it if its not really for the better. I pride myself in a lot of things that im not. [I'm not a lie, a cheat, or a theif]. So this year, no Im not gonna try to change myself by promising to do the revolving resolutions that fizzle out by February. This year I'm trying something new, Im just gonna add to the list of things that Im not.

IN 2008...
-I'm NOT gonna be lazy
-I'm NOT gonna be a procrastinator
-I'm NOT gonna wasteful
-I'm NOT gonna be so shy [yeah i REALLY am shy as hell]
-I'm NOT gonna be an over thinker[ livin life is sometimes about livin in the dang moment. took my ass damn near 23 years to learn that shit]
-I'm NOT gonna be dumb [and hand Balleys a check every month for nothin...lol]
-Finally, I'm NOT gonna be beat. I wont let situations or this medschool thing beat me.
Ya see, When you add up all these negatives, it all amounts to a positive change.

Ramifications...

Every time i hear about a terrorist attack in the world i cringe. I cringe for the victims, who undeservedly were stricken down and i also cringe for what it means for us. A lot of us in the US don't know [or care] about events that happen in the world. But especially now, with a new president coming to power soon, these things matter. Fear is one of the most primitive and powerful emotions, and fear is what a lot of people will capitalize on to make unfair reforms and also take liberties that aren't theirs [ ie-wire tapping... torturing...Selling out Valerie Wilson...all in the name of democracy].

There is an old trite saying that "you fear what you don't know" so i know I've been trying to stay abreast of the happenings in the world. I know that there are some really exciting "I love the What evers" on VH1 and I hear American Idol is coming back; But seriously, please peel your eyes away to find out whats going on in the world. And dont just trust CNN, [everyone has a bias] BBC and other reputable internet sources are good too[I wiki for the back story].That way you wont be swayed by fear [and ignorance] when the rhetoric from politicos starts spewing; especially after events like the bringing down of Bhutto.

God bless her soul... and ours

All These Things that I've Done...

Thats the title of one of my favorite Killers songs. The song has a killer [for lack of a better term] vamp, it starts with a line that almost takes you to church. They chant "I got soul but, I'm not a soldier" it cranks up to a big crescendo, and the rest is music at its best.

Yeah, i have a pretty eclectic taste in music. I dont say it to come off narcissistic or go into a rodomontade [ i been waiting a week to use that word lol]. I think its just a personal quirk i have. Anyhow, I like old music. I have an old soul, and I've always had an affinity for old things. This has saturated most aspects of my life. Music, Cars, Literature,Philosophy and even clothing & style [to some extent]

Well i said all that to say that I just scooped an old record from The Police. Im an 80's music buff, and im especially fond of the affected British bands [Like The Smiths, The Cure, Duran Duran]. The police are my favorite because you can feel their reggae influence on most of their songs.

So yeah....Uh, more later i guess

EXTREME Blogging

Dont you hate how everything is advertised as EXTREME this or MEGA that? lol anyway... The year is quickly closing and its about time for everyone to sit around an reflect on what a year 2007 was. Everyone talks about the high lights and the low lights, The TV shows have called in their hordes of commentators to present their own fresh barbs about some Hollywood A Lister who either went to rehab or called some on the N word. Well, im not pretentious enough to say im above doing it. I've thoroughly enjoyed this year and this blog. I think ive pretty much succeeded in keeping it light hearted [I mean i've only posted a few flashes of creativity and/or out pourings early 20's angst]. Well I guess i'll just make my top 5 list for the year and end with a little challenge for everyone out there.

[no this isn't the last post of the year, i just feel like if i dont do it now, i may forget before the new years comes]

-Movie-
This is a tough one... [i could tell you the worst movie, that shit load Golden Compass lol] I havent seen nearly as many movies this year as past years, but one thing for sure, is that it was a pretty awesome year for movies. Transformers, I am legend, Knocked up, SUPERBAD, Oceans 13, 300.... I kinda cant choose, i guess i like all of those but in light of the holiday season i'll go for my sentimental reasons and im gonna have to say Death Proof.

Not for acting or anything like that, though the movie was good and i could watch that ish over and over. I just really had a good time when i saw it. I went with my brother and it was some good memories thats all.... [i know it sounds sappy, but its my damn blog lol]

-Song-
Umbrella... Im sorry, no song was in my head as much, or banged as hard this year. Im man enough to admit that i was on that Umbrella. And dont get me started on the chris brown remix lol

-Book-
Uh... I did actually read this year. The thing is, with books there are so many treasures out there already that i dont read that many new books, i read classics, biographies and the occasional political book. But this summer I read ROOTS. That ish was serious. I even had the opportunity to go Annapolis and see the Alex Haley statue. I never saw the mini series, but after reading all 700 plus pages i think i can still keep my "black card"

-Style-
Dang this is a hard one too... I liked a lot of things that came into style this year. I hated a lot too, and being in DC i think i had the chance to see much more weird and wacky thing. But i think the one style thing that really caught on this year was Grey Denim. I like it cause it can be formal and dressy, hip hop or punk rock. Grey demin is tight.

-TV show-
My favorite TV show to come out this year was an online TV show. Its at ClarkandMichael.com. I was lookin up stuff about arrested development and found some Michael cera website, so i checked it out and it was funny as hell, i watched the whole web series and i was kinda bummed when they ended.

Ok my little challenge for yall good people...
I wish the idea was my own but its not... not totally at least, i got the main idea from a good friend and i modified the idea just a little bit. Ok here it goes.
1. Grab a piece of paper
2. grab a pen [i like blue pens, black is wack lol]
3. Sit down
4. Think about the year, meditate, breathe, pray, do what ever you want just think about this past year
5. Now put the pen to paper and write down some goals for 2008 more than 5 but less than 20 [we dont wanna set ourselves up]
6. Fold the paper up and put it in a safe place.

Try to remember those things but once you've written stuff leave it alone. Just leave it in that safe spot until like June or July and see how far you've come. The future you is gonna be totally different from the you of today, and Current you owes it to future You to get out there and make things happen. I'm a firm believer in mind over matter and moderate existentialism; I also personally know that positive vibes bring about positive results. Stick to your guns and write down some serious goals you have, you can do it.
You may be surprised

Peace&Love

favorite song on In Rainbows, The Radiohead CD

My Future

Yeah, I can’t sleep. For some odd reason this influx of insomnia was accompanied with a whim of inspiration; so I’ll embrace both feelings and write a love letter. No, it’s not addressed to anyone in particular [ruefully my life as a Medschool student, to date, is still devoid of the sweet touch of a woman].

My Future
I live to make you happy. Everything I do has prepared me to meet you. My goofy ways and witty remarks were made for you. Every song i heard was written about you. My life long love for beautiful things were just preparing my eyes to behold the vision that is you.

We live two separate lives waiting for that fateful moment when our lives are forever changed by our meeting. I can’t wait to embrace you and breathe in your essence; for then I will be born again. Because in that moment I will actually start living. Life will be made more sweet, and complex; while made so eloquently plain and simple.

I may not know you or know how fate will unite us, but I know that I already love you. You haunt my dreams like a beautiful apparition; frighteningly unknown yet beautifully familiar. So until that day, I’ll retain my quixotism and meet you in my dreams.

I copped the new Lupe Fisaco on tuesday from Itunes. Its one of the best hip hop albums i've heard in a long time. He's smart and his social comentary is pretty apropos. Its just a dope CD, it has an old school sound with a new fresh vibe. It feels like a CD i've owned my whole life, and yet its totally new and Cool [for lack of a better word... lol]

O face

lol

A classic O face from the one and only emperor of the free world Oprah Winfery.

I always say that i love passionate people. Oprah, Obama and other people are the kinds of role models that young people need to see everyday, they dont rap or play basketball. They do things for people and try to make a difference, i can get with that.

Ghandi said to "be the change you want to see in the world", its a timeless and simple statement that i wish more people would adopt. Sometimes we politicos and free thinking types like to sit and lament about the government and how the world is on the road to perdition. Well i say stand up and be the change, even in the little things just try to make that change.

They may be baby steps, but at least they're steps foward.

Done... kinda

So im on my 2+ week christmas break. Its not technically a break because i have to do some make up work... but this is what i live for. No, not for feelings of ineptitude, i live for challenges. I love a challenge i embrace it. I was listening to NPR yesterday and they have a series called, "I believe", its an essay series where prodigious men and women simply [and cleverly] state what and why they believe. The man yesterday wrote about trials and tough patches. He was a marine biologist and he discovered that fish sometimes swim towards rough patches of water to surf through, he found it odd at first but after much study he found that depending on how the fish approach the rough current they can actually save energy riding the waves and get around faster.

I know i always wax philosophically about random inspirational moments in my life. But, I really do find some stuff existentially fulfilling. Im on this road called life, and on it i've found some interesting people and seen some interesting sights and road stops. As i approach a new fork in the road i know that its all the way you approach it. Trials dont always come to break you down or even make you stronger, sometimes they come as a reminder of what and where you need to be; versus who and what you are at that moment.

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
-Roberta Flack-

in other news...

So im reading this book called Youth In Revolt, its a great book done in the picaresque style (a style i love and may even live my life in). The book is from the 90's but still great to this day, the story follows a young kid, Nick Twisp, on his journey into his teen years and all of the hilarity that ensues. The writing is great, the quips are funny and it has enough fresh smart humor to make fell not so bad for laughing at the dirty dark humor. Its a pretty good escape from the rigors of medschool life, and since i've given up all TV, besides CNN and the weather channel, im pretty happy to just laugh and reminisce on my own early teen years.

One of my favorite lines from the book is an interaction between a pious old woman and Nick's mom while the family is on vacation at a christian trailor park. It was the first time i laughed outloud while reading a book. lol
" Mrs. Clarkelson, re-faced, said to Mom, "Look into your soul, sinner. And you will see why God punished you with this child."

"Up yours, bitch," replied Mom with cogent succinctness. "

Royal Suckfest

No matter how inticing the title of this post may sound, its about one of the worst movies i have EVER wasted my life watching. It was such a marketing gimmick and i think i got pulled in by all the posters and previews and star power. Well let me just say that the Golden compass was the most stupid movie i have ever seen. The whole movie was shrouded with a veil of unexplained happenstances, the whole time you're "like what the F?".

Its a stinkfest of major proportions, im So over all of the two bit "epics" when the child savior is in some galaxy far away that looks like some preindustrial hamlet in jolly ole england. Golden compass was a waste of life.

I lost much respect for: A.Nicole Kidman, B. Daniel Craig and C myself (how could i have been so easily duped)

The answer my friend is blowin in the wind...

I was listening to an old Bob Dylan song, Blowin in the wing, and it seemed to inspire me. I've been hit pretty hard by a lot of disappointments this year and i've faced a lot of challenges and i've let myself down in a couple things. So i was listening to Dylan and reading when this song came up. I listened to the song twice and remebered hearing them talk about it on NPR. Dylan wrote it in 63' its basically a war protest song about peace and it asks a lot of the unanswerable questions that our society still faces [and always will for that matter]

I've been through a couple rough patches out here in the DMV and i keep a lot of my stuff to myself [cause im basically a pretty private person] but when i start to feel dejected something always comes around to helps me. I've realized that there is always room for improvement and that some things happy for you to learn and grow. Its hard to accept cetain things being the way they are.

I remind myself that no matter how bleek things may be they can always be worse.
[ however piteous THAT may sound...well, shoot it helps me sleep at night]

Voltaire taught me that blind optimism is foolish and my life has taught me that realism is the only true science. Real talk is that Im, breathing, im young, smart, talented, [handsome ; )] and i have people who love me, no matter what. Things may be bad, and relatively speaking they may seem to be the worst ever, but i know despite all that; I have a lot going for me and so do you which ever loyal friend and blog reader you may be. Be encouraged, because beyond all the supernatural and pomp and circumstance that we mix up in our rationale, things could be MUCH worse than whatever you are dealing with. The answer really is blowing in the wind. Go outside and take it all in, this is life... aint no body said it'd be easy

One Day

I was doing a little web surfing the other day and happened upon this picture of Slick rick, from the late 80's/early 90's. I know most people probably look at him like he's a friggin weirdo [and he is lol] but one thing I can admire about this pic is that its ballsy [to say the least].

Not many people can take a picture like this and A) not die from heavy metal poisoning [lol] and B) look so damn cool. I think Slick Rick is a G for this pic and I hope to one day be able to do anything i want and exude nothing but confidence while also lookin fly as hell

Amazing Post of the day

We all grew up being told that pregnancy is a "thing of beauty". Women have a pregnant glow, and a woman is her most attractive when she's "with child"... Personally i NEVER believed that ish. Maybe i was just a young kid focused on more convential things of beauty, but recent events have lead me to become a believer.

Halle Berry is pretty pregnant nowadays and has never looked as good.

Natural Mystic

I just bought a double CD of Bob Marley and the Wailers from itunes. It’s amazing. Old music is the best. I'll take timeless over trendy ANY DAY, especially when it comes to music. Pop music is aight don’t get me wrong, but the oldies: Soul, Salsa, Jazz, R&B and Rock. I live for the musical gems I find everyday. Everything had much more soul back in the day; its almost like music came from a totally different place than today [probably the heart perhaps?]. And me, being the soul searcher that I am, with my love for passionate people and passionate things; that’s the kind of music I naturally gravitate to and basically just really dig.
now go, lively up yourself and shake your bumba

So i guess its true...

So I copped these new dress shoes the other day, Bruno Magli's [ yeah i know, muy caro]. Normally i wouldn't pay as much as i did for ANYTHING. But after careful consideration and thought; I've come to realize that you REALLY do get what you pay for. I wore these bad boys for the first full day today and it was the best feeling ever, usually dress shoes can get a little uncomfortable, but not these. They are hand made from Nappa (its the softest leather i ever felt) . I never heard of that word but im now a true believer...lol. I love the shoe and i guess i'll chalk it up to being a good investment.

Same thing with my denim. I used to buy my jeans from the gap and junk, but they just cant hold up to my paper denim and cloth jeans. Good demin has to be worn in, why pay big bucks for shit with holes in it. Breakin in jeans is half the fun, and in the end they are comfortable as hell. When you buy qulity goods, they last longer and look much better, so i guess i'm saying that my frugality is slowly wearing away, and im lovin every minute of it.

How do i love thee? Let me count the ways...

She's one of the most beautiful women on TV and dare i say the friggin planet. Rashida Jones. She plays Karen on one of my favorite shows "The Office". They never shoulda down wrote her character, but a plus is that her new comedy got picked up by fox.... i think. I love this chick, for all the obvious reasons... and others too (im not that shallow lol). She sings, she has a fashion line, she's funny and she's smart [harvard educated].. She has that down played sexiness. She's not over the top and all done up, she's just really cool, calm and a true natural beauty.

Gosh, they dont make em like her anymore.

I wish i could say that i am surprised

I was pretty disturbed today after reading an article on CNN about Dr. Watson, from Watson and Crick and DNA, this Nobel laureate had some very questionable views. He gave a news paper interview and said some pretty racist things. He basically said that black people aren't as smart as whites and that Africa is doomed because of this under recognized fact.
I wish I could say that I was surprised, because that would mean that my heart hasn't been hardened by the world that we live in.

When I hear things like this from people like Dr. Watson down to the little hick in the corner store, it just reminds me that the world we live in is a mean and wicked place. People judge and come to bias and ignorant conclusions based on nothing but their own self fulfilling and self righteously skewed prejudices.

No matter how many marches we go on or however many Jena 6s there are black people have to fight everyday for an equal playing ground. Black people face some of the most thought out, long standing, and passive aggressive racism this world has ever seen. A lot of people come to such disturbing conclusions without viewing the entire story. Black people have only been "free" in the western world for 100 years. Black Americans have only had the most basic of civil rights for 40 years, and the continent of Africa is still paying its debt to the colonialist European empires that ravaged, raped and pillaged the entire continent the "cradle of humanity". The west forgets that Colonialism and their blood lust and greed put Africa in the state that it is in, and created all of the social problems that plague the black Diaspora.

So I stand not surprised, just that much more emboldened to prove myself. Emboldened to shatter all the stereotypes and break all the molds. I’m emboldened to show all of the bigots and fascists just what a little brown skinned boy from Georgia can do.

look in the mirror

Its always got to look at your self and see how far you've come. I was looking at some stuff i wrote on my old myspace blog and i was just trying to go back to that point and realize where i was at that point in life. Its a wierd thing to do because so much has changed in that brief amount of time. I dont remember why i wrote some of the stuff or what exactly was on my mind, but i do know that i gotta stay true to myself and not lose track of the personal goals i have set for myself.

I have to keep pushing myself to do the good that i know i have in me. I have to suppress the fear and doubt and replace it with positive thinking and strenght. I encourage everyone to just look back and make sure that you are still on track with things, you owe it to yourself and the world to fulfill your dreams.

Why i love SNL

Ode to friends

I'm a people person. I like people. I love to make people laugh and I always enjoy hanging out with people. I'm pretty indiscriminant too, as long as you're down for having fun and you aint causing too much trouble, I can roll with you.

There's people, who I like, and Friends, who I LOVE. I love my friends. I have the best friends in the world, they are all pretty eccentric and unique individuals; some of them even have some smart ass mouths lol... But I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world.

The thing about friends is, most times, if you think back to your first or second meeting then; You could already tell that yall were gonna be cool. It’s like a connection you feel. I say more than 80% of the people who I consider good, solid, down for the cause friends, I could tell right off the bat. It’s kinda like when you meet a girl and you know you have that chemistry, but it’s understandably different (lol no homo). It’s that inexplicable feeling of knowing that you meet a kindred spirit, someone you were destined to meet and someone who will be in your life for a while.

It’s a good feeling to find those types of friends and another sweet thing about friends is that when you're separated for a long time and you are finally reunited. It’s like nothing else. You don’t have to play catch up and talk about all that stupid small talk; you just pick up where you left off and start a whole new adventure. Another great part of friends is even though you may find more friends; the older ones still have the same place. It’s like that parent stuff”I don’t love you any less, everyone has their special place” lol

After a while most of your truly close friend cross another line, that point of no return where they are more than friends. They become like family and they become the brothers and sisters that you WISH you had lol. Your road dogs and home girls are some of the most influential people in your life, besides your family and stuff, these people help to make you who you are.

So here's to yall

Lucky Done Gun

My lucky streak ran out yesterday....
I got pulled over (for the first time) right in front of our nation's capital. Me and some friends were leaving a restaurant for a late night study break, and i kinda took a wrong turn. So i was trying to get back on track and i didn't see this red left turn signal till too late and i stopped in the middle of the other lane. So did what any other responsible driver would do, and i just commited and took that ish so my ass wouldnt get hit.... Well the cops saw me and pulled my ass over lol. After much waiting and questioning it was all good cause i just got a warning.

So i guess I'm still the man

Serious Post for the Day

In my youtubing this weekend I found an Oscar winning documentary on the 1989 US invasion of the Republic of Panama. The film, The Panama Deception, discussed a lot of things that happened in that short but deadly campaign. I initially watched the film for its historical value but the film ended up bringing a lot of things to mind and it gave me some new perspective on the war in Iraq.

I'll give a quick background. The country of Panama was and is a key location in the Americas because of its famed canal, and its proximity to both north and South America. The ruler at the time was the much vilified Manuel Noriega. The US president was none other than George Herbert Walker Bush (Big Bush)... You can get the whole story from wikipedia.

The US invaded the country a few days before Christmas, in the wee hours of the morning, to oust Noriega. By the end of the campaign entire neighborhoods were burned down, Noriega was captured, and 300-4000 civilians were killed. [300 civilian casualties as reported by the US -4000 casualties are reported by every other investigative body. It seems like a big discrepancy, and it is. I’ve heard eye witness accounts from family memebers and after seeing the film, Im pretty sure that the 300 casualties reported by the US was a blantant lie and cover-up. Thousands of people don't just disappear.]

Let me get to my point. I already felt for the people of Iraq, but this film changed my perspective because It showed me how war and the might of amercica affected people who I know and a country that is "tangible" to me. I've been to Panama and I’ve heard about it my whole life. Maybe if Iraq wasn't in a far off land people would be doing more. As is the case with Iraq, the true deception in the invasion of Panama was how the media coved it and how the people in the US were spun the story. Amidst Global opposition the, US invaded a sovereign nation and killed thousands of innocent civilians, the whole time focusing only on American views and interests;while solely accounting for American casualties.

I wish I had some fancy alliteration, but to put it plainly: All life is important regardless of nationality, sex, ethnicity or religion. I don’t care where they come from; when a person is killed it’s a tragedy not just collateral damage.

One eerie thing about the of the film was seeing Cheney, who happened to be our secretary of defense and director of the invasion of Panama and Operation Desert Storm... Seeing clips of HW saying the exact same words about the panama invasion as his son is saying about Iraq, was also a little weird. In no way am I trying to compare the two operations, everyone knows Iraq is gonna be a blite in our history till the end of time. I'm just sharing a little perspective. I think that we, Americans forget that we live in a global community and our interests aren't always good for the common good. I they sometimes we forget that its not only Americans who want to live in peace and enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Mi jente

My People.... I love black people. Despite all of our problems, we as a people have come a long way. I like all black people, but now I’m talking about Black Americans. I'm talking about black Americans who have withstood and overcome hundreds of years of oppression. We are the only group of people who have no direct link to a country that is truly our own. We live in American and are considered as much. Yet we still face discrimination and despite however many strives have been take, we are still looked down on as second class citizens in some respects. All other peoples have some idea of their true background, but black Americans are left with just a continent; A huge continent that is filled with hundreds of ethnic groups, tribes, religions and countries.

We as a people have risen up and faced odd that seemed insurmountable to become a major influence on world culture and music. We have invented and patented inventions in the dark ages of our country's history. Many aspects of our modern world were made possible because of the contributions of black Americans, and honestly speaking, the United States would not be the country and world power it is today if it were for the blood, sweat, tears, dignity and freedom sacrificed by our people.

I don’t want to talk about the negatives, violence and general apathy that plague us. This essay is therapy. I guess sometimes I need to remind myself that there is nothing wrong with being half black. I come from two rich cultures and I proudly accept and embrace both. The world says that "blackness" is bad thing and somehow blackness has become synonymous with negativity. It’s so prevalent that other minorities are affected; even people in the black Diaspora look down on black Americans; because of how the media portrays us and how some of us portray ourselves. Other races look down on us because of years of bigotry, social stigmas and general ignorance. A change is gonna come because more than ever doors are being open, and injustices are being fought everyday.

I like challenges and I'm up for showing the world what a smart, young, gifted black man can do. I’m not doing this for myself; I do it for your people, MY people and everyone who came before me.

Here's to being young, gifted and black. I wouldn't have it any other way

7 deadly sins

The Seven Social Sins: politics without principles, wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, knowledge without character, commerce without morality, science without humanity, and worship without sacrifice.

These seven social sins were outlined by Gandhi. I find myself looking to great philosophers and humanitarians to find encouragement and wisdom as i toil through medical school. [Gandhi was a great man, his level of enlightenment is mind blowing.] When I found his quote on these "sins" I just sat and reflected on them. I came to an eerie sense of concurrence when i realized that the sins are the embodiment of the world today.

People, times are hard and I really want this to be a light hearted blog, but there are WAY bigger things out there to focus on, beyond pop culture, iphones and the VMAs. I encourage everyone to survey their life and to make sure that they aren't guilty of any social sins. Take this weekend to sift through the hodgepodge, that is life, and just get rid of selfishness and ego. While at the same time clinging ever closer to the goodness that’s still inside.

Enough is enough

Alright,

Living in a major metropolis you're bound to see a lot of crazy things. Being from the Atlanta area i have had my fare share of encounters with bums. But for some reason the DC bums are in a league ALL of their own (maybe cause Crack is the Drug dujour but whatever). I mean we've seen the pursuit of happyness with Will Smith and his nappy headed hoe i mean son...lol. So i know that the plight of every bum isn't self inflicted so i can feel for some of the bums... SOME

It seems like you can't walk anywhere in DC without running into a bum. These bums have an odd fixation with quarters, not even dollars, the dudes live for quarters. Ive seen a bum woman ask an entire restaurant for a friggin quarter. (I dont know what the hell she was tryin to buy with a quater...but I digress) You try to do your christianly duty of giving them what ever change or dollars you have but its NEVER enough. You'd think after years of bumming someone would actually take some initiative.

Im sick of bums. One night a group of us went out we were walking down the street to another establishment. We were joking and laughing and i was making a very physical joke, that called for a little dance to be done, when all of a sudden RANDOM ANGRY saxaphone bum came out of nowhere and started hating on me. The dude was asking the girls i was with, "yall think thats sexy? Huh in my neiborhood that aint shit, blah blah blah... got a quarter?" it didnt even register what was goin on because the shock had us all like "What the hell?".

Sheesh, last night after leaving a The Dinner,in Adams Morgan, a friend of mine gave half of her chicken sandwich to a bum. He snatched that ish and said, "that'll do". We shoulda snatched that ish back and stomped the hell out of it. Im SO through with bums. MAN, F bums. Holler at the homless shelter, scrub that ass, and shave. Save up all those damn quarters and buy a mint. Dammit!

Soul Stiring

What ever happened to music that meant something? Those songs that make you feel goose bumps and stir your soul. Old ballads and laments of love lost or unrequited trists. Nowadays everyone wants a hot beat or a remix with the hottest people out. Are all the lyricist dead? I hope not and when ever i find a song with soul best believe i'll be on limewire when the track is finished.

Diary of an Ex-Hipster...

I was youtubeing, the other day, and i found a pretty funny clip called "the hipster olympics". Its some spoof thing making fun of hipsters and their counter culture. I laughed a lot case i realized that more of that junk applied to me then i thought.

I think the modern "hipster movement" is one of the cultural landmarks of our generation. Just like the hippies, beatniks and punks. Vh1 is going to do an "I love the 00's" on this shit. lol. I think that a lot people are hipters in their own right. Degrees of hipsterdome vary and have their own regional or cultural nuances.

Being a hipster just happens. (I mean, Without realizing it i started doing all these things like Blogging, The myspace photo sessions, skinny jeans, tee shirts, vintage stuff, bar hopping and music mongering) You know whats good with the mainstream, but you still hate the estabishment. You have political views, you may even have a couple "causes" worth fighting for. You hate Bush and never watch MTV for the music. So what do you do? You do what you can to set yourself apart from the mainstream, but in the end, you end up looking like everyone else trying to do the same thing. Its a lose-lose situtation.

I think that this hipster junk is ok. I mean its cool for everybody else. I even claimed to be a hipster as a joke. But now i realize thats its kinda un-cool to be labeled so yeah- Later for that. I'm denouncing my hipster status. I have MUCH better things to do... like surf the web for obscure bands before they sell out. ..lol

Ghetto Revival?

I was checkin out the latest issue of complex ( a GREAT magazine by the way) and i happened upon an add for the fall line at puma. Its all early hip hop influenced. Im all for ghetto revivals, throw backs and all that junk. But wasn't hip hop originally supposed to be more than just gimics, girls, gold and ad campains? This reminds me off the common song " i used to love H.E.R" .

Livin in DC i see A LOT of kids runnin around lookin like this. Real 80's and junk, dookie chains bright colors and the gumbies. I can get down with the look, its fly. I just hate when it looks all costumey and junk.

Hip hop is supposed to be more than this. Now Im not claimin to be no hip hop afficionado or nothin cause im from the burbs and i do watch my MTV. Im just sayin that we look like posers playin dress up if we dont try to enact the change and spread a message like the people we are getting this ish from. I know cash is king, but its nice to believe that sometimes morals and messages actually mean something.

thats all for today

In life there are A LOT of things that are funny. I love a good joke. And there are some comedians out there that push the limits and say some of the funniest ish, but nothing beats a good ol' unplanned fall. People getting caught off guard is somehow SO funny to me. Thank god for youtube cause i can sit for hours and just look for funny things. These two clips had me rollin last night.
