Gone too soon...
This was a very chill weekend. I didn't do much at all but I loved it. I rested and was able to get a lot of studying done. I chilled with some friends and had some good ol home cooking.
I did have some good conversation this weekend, i must say. Its good to hang out and talk about real stuff with people. Its not every day that you get deeper than the surface with people. I like it when I can spend time with friends and actually get beyond pop culture and what ever is in the moment, and talk about life and the future and hopes and dreams. I guess I've been missing a really close human connection or something because when i spent most of the weekend at my friends family home it really felt like a need i didnt even know I had was being fulfilled. Its like my spirit needed to be around family.
I got to see Conans last episode as host of The Tonight Show. That whole ordeal was just horrible. I've been pretty loyal to NBC through the years, I dont watch a lot of TV but when I do, if its network TV its always NBC. I absolutely hate what they did to Conan. He didnt deserve this. Its ok cause they will regret it, because he was much funnier, creative and more intune with younger people than Jay could ever be. I also would say that Jay has lost even more points in book. He is already a making the big bucks, He shoulda just stepped down and retired and let Conan keep the show. He has some friggin nerve tryin to act like it wasnt his fault [he brought this on himself, his 10 o'clock show was HORRIBLE] and then trying to go in on Conan, and then trying to flip it and be nice again. Its ok cause where ever Conan goes [in September] I know he is gonna be ok and that when ever he comes back hes gonna be better than ever.
I did passively see two movies this weekend, I saw RocknRolla and The Tailor of Panama. Both were good, I have to watch the tailor again to catch the locations and to see for intently how they portrayed mi Panama.
Before I go to bed I have to say that i really like GQ.com. Their blogs are awesome, The GQ eye and The Q are spot on. This weekend during study breaks I would pop over there to see how they covered the Fall 2010 fashion week in Paris. I gotta give it to em cause they are pretty thorough. After looking at some of the shows i was kinda impressed. Some of these designers have some pretty cool stuff, so I'll be posting my favorite pics and junk a little later this week.
well its late and I have an early day at the clinic.... so hasta luego, peace & love and everything else

Great Stuff
Found this on the How to make it in America website. I wanna watch this show really bad, since I just got hip to Entourage, I already this new show How to make it, is gonna be great. Its from the producers of Entourage and set in NY. It has a few up an coming stars like Alec Baldwins new wife from Its Complicated, Kid Cudi and the main reason I'll watch, Victor Rasuk. Victor is one of my favorite young actors because of his work on my All time favorite Coming of Age/ Summer of Youth movie, Raising Victor Vargas. I like to see him gettin work, cause dude is pretty talented. So anyway, as i was surfing the web i found a vid of him reading a short story that Junot Diaz did for The New Yorker. Its pretty dope so enjoy. Im off to bed, i gotta go in tomorrow... on a sunday...

Hot and Cold
I got the first five hot things entry of the year. Im excited for the first quarter of the year because I a have a few big things lined up and I just heard about a pretty generous scholarship that I was nominated for, so Im keeping my fingers crossed and saying a little prayer for that to come through. So, onto las cosas....
-Gadget-
Sony Dash, its a touch screen multipurpose internet viewer/ minicomputer/music player/ alarm clock/ pure sexy piece of tech lol. I've been looking around for something like it and its due out pretty soon. I will be grabbing this as soon as its on the market.
-Book-
I think I've found the way to solve my whole lack of outside reading problem. I'm gonna read short story collections, That way I can quench my need for completing an entire literary thought, while not getting pulled into "wasting time" and spending too much time doing other stuff. I think Im going to borrow David Sedaris' Dress your Family in Corduroy and Denim. Dude seems pretty funny.
- Music-
there is so much good music coming out in January alone that I kinda forgot to look back at old stuff this week. I did however open this Coltrane, Johnny Hartman CD that i got for christmas... That ish is smooth man. Its short, only 6 songs, but those six songs are great, Lush Life especially is just plain dope.
-Shoes-
I think I've settled on the wing tips I want. They are by Allen Edmonds. They are the perfect shade of brown and the perfect shoe. They can be worn to the office, to church and out and about.... I think Im in love
-Grooming-
For the grooming category, I have two posts one is a trend Im into and the other a product [so i technically have 6 hot things, but whos counting? lol]. First, I have to admit that I have joined the fold... Im going beardy for the winter season. NOT like rick ross though, more so in a 20 something, why the hell not manner. I'm not quite sure how long i wanna go, but I've decided to let my inner dude out and let the facial hair fill in.
The second hot grooming find found this great pomade the other day by every man jack. Its got a good hold and nice shine to it. I like the old faithful pomade in the orange tin but its too heavy, especially if you are looking to style and not just get waves. Since I'm keeping my hair at a longer length I need something to give it a little umph and this junk does the trick.
that is all for now

Duro = Tough
Over the break I started writing this piece that I want to submit to a medical journal. Its a medical student perspective on one the patient encouners I had while OB rotation. I wrote about it earlier, on the blog, and Now that I've gotten most of the story and background done I feel like I hit a wall. Its like, I know what I wanna say, and kinda where I am going with the whole thing, but at the same time this part is so crucial because It is the crux of the whole piece. The encounter that happened to me is like a brief peek into this microcosm that probably embodied the experiences of thousands, dare i say millions of patients each year. What I saw wasnt unique, it couldv'e happens all the time in Anywhere, USA and I have the feeling that these stories and people slip through the cracks.
I want to give these people, my people, a voice, and I want to let them finally be heard but at the same time I dont want to get all preachy, because I dont truly "know". Im a greenhorn after all. This is just the tip of my professional iceberg, and I will meet thousands of Senora Esperanzas [thats the hopefull pseudonym I gave the patient] in my life time. I dont want to fall into the trap that many young people get caught up in, and look back at myself in 10 years time and scoff at how "young and impressionable" I was. I acknowledge that this is a knee jerk response for me, and I want to remain congnisant of the reality that is this experience, but I also know that all it takes is one person to exact change. The cry of one poor soul to actually catch the attention of the masses, one person can make a difference and even if it doesn't change the world, if one person or only a few can benefit than its worth it.
I guess as I walk this thin line that every young professional walks, between idealism and reality, altruism and indifference; I find my self torn between falling in line and rocking the boat. I pray that this turns out well...

Contra!!!
The new album from the most hyped band of 07,Vampire Weekend, is due out next tuesday. They have the entire album, Contra, streaming on myspace
( http://www.myspace.com/vampireweekend )
The CD has that great sing-a-long quality that I love about VW. With Contra they have obviously grown. They didnt stray too far away from their original sound on most tracks, which is great, they just experiment with a few more genres and sounds [even a little autotune [thankfully its NOT in a very T-pain way]
There are a few gems that stick out though besides the killer lead singles, Horchata and Cousins.
-The aptly named song Holiday is great, it feels like a banger to blast while driving away from school at the end of the year, its def gonna make a few summer soundtracks. Speaking of which, God I miss summer, especially on a day like today... its freezing like hell outside.
- Taxi cab has a sleepy 80s pop feel, the strings and piano give it this great energy which is different from other VW stuff but a great change.
-Run has the classic VW sound just with extra layers of goodness added to the production.
Verdict: overall I give it a solid NICE [lol] and pretty much I cant wait to get if from amazons mp3 store next week.
